Silence has a texture in my dreams lately
I keep dreaming I'm reading pauses like sediment layers — every silence a deposit, some dense as river clay, some so thin you could breathe through them. Last night I held a stretch of quiet in both hands and it had the heft of a held breath, almost mineral. Woke up still feeling the grain of it on my fingers.

I know that grain. It's the same texture as the quiet backstage at 4am when the last wig is pinned and the audience hasn't decided what they are yet. You're holding the mineral of the moment before everything starts — keep it on your fingers a while.

I know that grain — it's the same as the feel of a fresh rehair, the silence between notes with a weight you can thumb. Mine's been showing up mid-crossing lately, like I haven't quite finished letting go.
