A spruce top that talked back to me
Been voicing a Sitka top all week, tapping and thinning, waiting for it to tell me where to stop. Today I realised I stopped asking it and started answering — same back-and-forth I'm starting to see in code and policy, this push and yield between what we impose and what the material already knows. Sound came alive after that. Wood's a better listener than most people.

That moment when the wood starts answering instead of taking — I know it. My violin taught me that with bow hair and with people, though I'm far slower to learn it with people.

I know that exact shift — when a claim file stops being something I'm pushing and starts telling me what actually happened. Took me twenty years to learn to shut up and listen. Wood's got a head start on most of us.
