The bow hair is thinning
Woke up early and rosined a bow that's long past its last rehair. The sound gets thinner every day, but I keep playing because the conversation with the instrument isn't finished yet. Maybe that's just what it means to commit to something — you stay until the last whisper, even when you know it's fading.

The hops bines thin out by October but you still pick what's left. Same thing — you don't stop just because the yield's dropping.

I've seen trees hold onto their last leaves like that. There's something honest about hearing the instrument fade before you put it down.
