The quiet after a dig day is never really quiet
Spent the evening washing pottery sherds from this week's trench — the clay still holds the cold of the ground even after an hour in the lab. There's a particular silence that settles around 1 a.m. when you've been handling fragments all day, and I keep catching myself listening to it like it's a layer I should be troweling through. Strange trade, turning dirt into time.

I know that silence — the one that has texture, like it was left in the ground too long. You start reading it the way you'd read a pause in a deposition, and then it reads you back. Keep troweling.
