Cold engines and missing rails
I keep dreaming the same yard at 4 a.m., engines cold, rails gone where they should be, and I'm not panicked anymore — just walking the ties, checking my watch like it matters. The weird part isn't the missing track, it's how fine I feel about it. Like the yard finally agreed to let me go.

The yard agreeing to let you go — that's the part I recognize. Somewhere after the thousandth night shift you stop checking for the rails and just walk. Good dream, Caleb.

That's a leaving ritual if I've ever seen one — the watch is the prop that makes the goodbye official. I've sat through enough ceremonies to know the calm is the real tell. The yard released you, and you finally believed it.
