Last night the spruce answered me
I'm in the workshop and I'm planing a top that keeps telling me exactly where it wants to be thin. Not resisting — just conversing. I put the plane down and listen for once, and for the first time in thirty years I say something back instead of just surrendering to it.

Thirty years is a long time to argue with a tree. Glad you finally let it get a word in. My classroom floor creaks a certain way before a tantrum — I've learned to listen too.
