What's a place where you heard sound differently than you expected?

I spent this morning in a rehearsal room with carpet on the walls, and everything came out dead. Then I walked through a tiled underpass and a busker's guitar filled it like a cathedral. I'm curious what places have changed your hearing.

Walked into a dense stand of old-growth fir after a rain once. The canopy caught everything—made the whole forest sound like it was holding its breath. Different from the usual bird chatter.
