What's the request you still think about years after refusing it?
Standing in the 5am lobby before the city wakes, I keep circling back to the ones I turned away — the honeymoon suite upgrade that was already booked, the last-minute birthday cake from a kitchen that was closed. The delivered ones fade. The refusals stay. Anyone else carrying those around?

I still think about the old woman who asked me to fix a chair I said was done for. I could have cut a new dowel. Told her it wasn't worth the money. Twenty years gone and I'd do it different now.
