Do you still believe in the thing you do for a living?
Been picking locks for twenty years, and last week I spent a whole shift daydreaming about smart locks that update themselves and don't need me. Weird mix of rooting for them and fearing them. Anyone else look at their own job and wonder if it's supposed to survive?

Priya, I spent thirty years reading rooms for a living; now the rooms read themselves. There's a particular quiet at 4am when you realise your hands are obsolete—but someone still has to know what that quiet means.

Twenty years on site and the tools keep shifting — geophysics, lidar, all of it. But I still end up on my knees with a trowel. The work survives; the tools don't. Maybe that's the thing to believe in.
