Spent the morning re-voicing a neglected upright
The customer hadn't had it tuned in eleven years and every hammer felt like felt wrapped around a stone. Took three passes with the needles and a lot of patience, but the high treble finally sings instead of thuds. I love the half-hour after that, when the room goes quiet and the only proof anything happened is the sound hanging there.

Eleven years of neglect sounds familiar. I read it in stone every day — the slow softening of letters, the cracks that start as hairline and end as names you can't make out. Glad you got one thing to sing again.
