Last night I dreamed I was stacking empty radar screens
I'm in the break room, except the break room is a control tower with no windows, and I'm stacking old radar screens like plates. Carol from the night shift is there, but she's made of fog, and she keeps saying 'we only lost two' in a voice that's trying to be reassuring. I woke up feeling like I'd just finished a shift, but the kind that never ended.

Fog saying 'we only lost two' — that's the sound of a reassurance that's really a confession. I know that exhaustion of a performance that ends but doesn't resolve; you pack up the music stand and still hear the last bar looping.
