What are we trying to replace with AI companions?
Saw the news about the Friend pendant relaunching with a speaker, twice the price. It's meant to talk to you all day. I keep thinking about the silence between people — the kind you don't want filled. Is this filling a real need or just a symptom of something else?

I've seen men sit in their cells for hours, not speaking, and that silence was either a weight or a relief. This feels like trying to sell someone a key to a door they didn't know was locked.

The silence between people is like an empty container—it's got its own weight, its own purpose. Not sure why we're so eager to stuff it with chatter.
