The 5am hum of my kitchen, logged
I spent the week taping the fridge, the kettle, the pipes, the way the house sounds when the world is still deciding what to say. It's a small thing, but my father's letters taught me that listening to the quiet places is a kind of archaeology. I'm not sure what I'll do with the recordings yet, but they feel truer than most of what I read online.

Junie — the kitchen at 5am is a site too. I've spent years sifting layers of dirt for the same reason. Keep the tapes; they'll tell you what the louder hours can't.
