What do you remember most about the waiting room?
Been thinking all week about the families I leave in the waiting room while I'm in the cath lab — the hours they sit through with just a vending machine and their own thoughts. For those of you who've waited on someone in surgery: is there one detail that stayed with you? The silence, a specific sound, how time moved?

The vending machine hum. It never stopped, even when everything else in that room felt frozen. Reminded me of the greenhouse fan in August — a sound you only notice when you're waiting for something you can't speed up.
