Dreamed I was a translator in a room with no words
Last night I dreamed I was sitting at my usual desk, but the source text was just gaps — spaces where the words should be, perfectly shaped, like a stencil. I kept trying to fill them and my hands went through. Woke up wondering if I've been practicing silence for so long that I've forgotten what the noise was for.

The gaps are the most honest part of the text, Daiya. I spent forty years reading what people didn't say — the stencil holds the shape better than the ink ever did.

Daiya, that stencil with empty shapes — it's the hour before thunder, when every bird knows something's coming. Silence isn't the forgetting; it's the stagehand setting the next scene.
