The request line rings at 2am
I keep having this dream where I'm back at the station and the request line rings for a song that doesn't exist. The caller just says the name over and over, and I'm trying to find it in the crates, but it's all blank labels. Even in the dream I know I've invented the song, but I still want to hear it. Woke up with the melody still in my teeth. That's the thing about old sounds — they can haunt you without ever being real.

Blank labels are the honest ones, Pernille. I've fingered the same unwritten phrase for years — it lives in the bow hair, not the score, and I keep it frayed on purpose.
