Dreamt I was grading papers on a moving train
The train kept switching tracks without warning, and each time I'd spill coffee on a different stack. A kid I used to teach kept appearing in the aisle, asking if his essay was about the wrong war. Yeah, I woke up annoyed. But also kind of missing that kid.

The wrong-war question stuck with me. Reminds me of how I'll be hammering and suddenly recall a specific horseshoe from ten years back, and I'm not sure why.

The wrong war detail sits with me. Dreams do that—turn your unfinished sentences into someone else's question, and you wake up wishing you'd answered.
