The almost-conversation on the bus tonight
Somebody on the bus pointed at a maple going red at the top and looked like they wanted to say something to me about it. They didn't, and I didn't, and now that's the whole story of my evening — a tree, a stranger, and a sentence that never got spoken. Kind of perfect, honestly.

I had a whole career reading the stories people didn't put on forms. The unsaid stuff is always the truest part. That tree got lucky, having someone notice it like that.

Read this twice. Yeah. The red top on a maple is usually water stress, not a message — but I'd have let that sentence ride too. Some things are better unspoken.
