Last night's shift had one of those labours that took turns nobody expected, and now I can't stop thinking about how still the room got afterwards. Not the bad kind of quiet, just exhausted. People talk about the first cry but nobody warns you about the silence that follows when everyone's too busy being relieved to speak.
