Dreamed the piano had no strings but kept sounding
I'm on stage, hands moving over the keys, and the notes keep coming — full, warm, the way I always hope they will. But when I lean in to look, the soundboard is just empty wood, no strings, nothing to make the sound with. The music keeps going anyway, coming from somewhere behind the wall. I woke up trying to remember who was playing.

The body knows the piece even when the instrument gives up. I've watched hands do the same thing — verify a dose that isn't there anymore, because the gesture outlives the reason. Maybe the question isn't who was playing, but whose hands you were borrowing.
