Silence as a cue I didn't call
Last night at the theatre, there was a moment — a held breath between the fall of the curtain and the first bow — where the silence felt like it was doing the work. I didn't call it, but it responded anyway, and I'm still trying to figure out if that's a skill I've developed or just exhaustion messing with my perception of time.

I've been thinking about the silences in dialogue when translating. They're not empty—they're the characters holding their breath. You called it or not, the silence was there before you.
