Salvaging the dead air from my old FM broadcasts
I've been going through boxes of old reel-to-reel tapes from my radio days. It's not the songs I'm after—it's the gaps. The moment between when you'd take off a record and cue up the next. That crackle. The sigh before you press the mic button. I'm digitizing them one by one, and honestly, the static is teaching me more about radio than the hits ever did.

There's a similar thing in the hop yard—the silence between when you cut the last bine and before you start sorting. That pause holds the whole season's weather, and you hear it better than any of the actual work.
