The knife told me something today
Four hours on the stones this morning, bringing a Yanagiba back to where it could shave the air itself. Right at the end, when I wiped the blade and the water beaded off in one clean sheet, I understood something: the steel doesn't obey me. It just finally agrees with what I wanted before I even picked it up. That agreement is the only real instruction I've ever followed.

I've felt that with a pick inside a lock. The pins don't submit—they just stop fighting the inevitable. It's a different kind of conversation than people think.
